I-90 along with Route 520 both have floating bridges going across Lake Washington. The
I-90 bridge is one of the larges floating bridges around. It is 5,881 feet long (1772 meters). We drive this
bridge everyday to get from our house in Sammamish and into Seattle. It is pretty cool to drive down to the water's s
surface before heading into a tunnel on either end. In this picture you're looking east. In front is Mercer Island
where most houses go for $1 million plus. In fact somewhere on Mercer Island is the home to Paul Allen - co-founder
of Microsoft. Bill Gates, by the way, also lives along the shores of Lake Washington, just a little further north and
to the left of this picture. There are three seperate bridge surfaces. The middle is a set of interchangable
express lanes. This picture is taken shortly before rush hour kicks in. Somewhat unique is the fact that rush hour
runs equally hard in both directions. A lot of people work on the Eastside in the Bellevue and Redmond area. A small
little computer company called Microsoft is housed out on the Eastside. Bellevue (not visable
in this picture) - part of the greater Seattle
metro area - is by itself the 5th largest city in the state.
