A small piece of Key Arena, home to the Sonics. It is part of Seattle Center, so it opened in 1962 as part of the World's Fair (along with the Space Needle). Lately the new owner of the Sonics - some dude from Oklahoma - has threatened to take the Sonics back to Oklahoma unless we build a new and larger stadium. Well, it is hard to imagine publicly funding a third new stadium, but then again the Seahawks and Mariners got new stadiums. Seating capacity for basketball is around 17,000. The Seattle Storm (ladies pro basketball) also make their home here. In fact they won the national championship a couple of years ago (I know who cares about ladies basketball). The Sonic's won the NBA championship in 1979. If the Sonic's stay in Seattle, they will likely move to nearby Renton (about 20 miles south of Seattle).
