Spring is in the air! Cherry tree blossoms make for a good foreground to the Needle. The
Seattle Center - where the Space Needle sits - was created as part of the 1962 World's Fair. It's a great place
to bring kids. There is a small amusment park, lots of activities in the summer, such Bite of Seattle and the
Bumbershoot Festival. Seattle Center also houses Key Arena where the Sonics play (uhh for now!). There is also
The Children Museum and Pacific Science Center.
Of course the Spance Needle is the center of attention. Built in 1962, it is the landmark of Seattle's skyline.
The Needle is 184 meters high (605 feet). Several buildings in downtown are now higher. In 1962, however, it
was the tallest building west of the Mississippi River. There is a revolving restaurant on top and a great observation
deck to see the entire city and surrounding area. The Needle was designed to look like flying saucer, she can
take a 9.5 magnitude earthquake and 150 MPH winds.
