At 14,410 feet ((4392 meters) Mt. Rainier is the tallest mountain in Washington
state. I believe it is the second highest peak in the Lower 48. Rainier is huge! Beyond the fact that its
almost 4400 meters high, it is just damn large mountain that starts at sea level and works
its way up. Almost every year climbers
are killed on Rainier. Rainier is still a volcano, and might very well blow one day like its sister mountain
located a few miles south did in 1980 - St. Helens. Some of the other large peaks in the area include Adams, St Helens, Glacier,
Baker, Hood (near Portland) and Shasta down in California.
