It is pretty common to see houses with grass on the roof in more rural areas. It makes for an excellent insulator for those cold winter nights, especially up in the mountains. In modern times, it is more of a tradition than a necessity, but it gives a nice rustic look, esp. on cabins (which are very popular for Norwegians to have out in the wilderness). This picture was taken just north of the Arctic Circle crossing on Saltfjellet.
