Completed in 2000 (took 5 years to build). The bridge actually consists of a combination
of a long bridge and a tunnel. The tunnel is apprx 4 km long. The reason for not building two bridges - the tunnel
portion is too close to Copenhagen's Kastrup airport. Pretty impressive bridge/tunnel to cross even though it
cost $100 to go back and forth (discounts are available for frequent travelers). This border crossing between
Sweden (Malmo) and Denmark (Copenhagen) is the longest of its kind in the World. Prior to 2000 this voyage could
only be done by ferry or driving all the way around through Poland and Finland ( I don' think so!!). This really
cuts down on travel time. I could literally start driving in Olso in the morning and have a later dinner in Germany.
